benzgcomx.jpgKnowing the mission and vision of the company one is applying at is one good advantage for any applicant. It could be had through research and online browsing or through the company itself, by visiting its personnel department and asking for informative resources.

Knowing is the start of it all. The employee who is well aware of the aims and directions of the company he or she is working for is one who has good future and security in the company, would be dynamic enough and participatory in every affair.

Top management look for these kind of individuals, one who takes pride and great knowledge on what the company is all about, it’s direction, its policy and towards the salient rules and guidelines for conduct and operation.

Know the mission and vision of your company and take them into heart.

If there is one most deadly workplace sin, that would be envy. Not only does a person’s envy pull other people’s growth downward, it also hinders that person’s upward career mobility.

While it is oftentimes manageable, battling envy in the work place is no easy job. Usually, it starts within oneself. You have to know the roots of your envy. It could be your low self-esteem and insecurity, your fear to make mistakes or your utter envy of other people whom you think are superior over you.

Keeping your envy in check is a good start to eliminate it in your system. Learn how to appreciate the people around you, participate actively in team building activities, renew friendships and acquaintances, share your knowledge to others and continuously motivate yourself to improve are just some of the strategies you could use to battle envy in the work place.

There are workers who are humble while there are those who are annoyingly boastful. There are also those who know when to get people’s attention in the right place, at the right time and with a proper circumstance.

Self-promotion and bragging are two different sides of the coin. While the former plants the seeds of discontent and over confidence, the latter promotes oneself as a way of seeking success.

Bragging is when you make exaggerations about your output as a way to get noticed by the head honchos. Self-promotion is when you praise your fellow worker’s progress and update your boss of your accomplishment in a professional way.

If your are decided on where you want to work, and have a list of specific companies in mind, it may be best if you skip mediators and third party websites. You can go to the company directly. Simply browse their website for an email where you can send your resume. If they don’t have one listed, contact their human resources department. Don’t just send to their general email because companies usually have a separate email address for receiving job applications. After this you can follow up from time to time – there’s no harm in it, as long as you’re not too persistent. Employers will appreciate that you went directly to them, because it shows that you really want to work for them. Brownie point for effort, which also makes for a good impression.

Resume
Our fears have been realized and jobs are being lost and not created(except for the Federal Government which claims would be creating jobs), the rest the thousands of job hunters who cannot get a job are left out on a limb. Try to use the full spectrum of job searching, online, social networks, job hunt networks and don;t forget the traditional go out an get it approach.
Jobs are out there, just that you cannot be to picky due to the scarcity, for one opening has several hundred available applicants. Make yourself stand out from the rest and use your failures as motivating factor. Update your resume and take out all add-on’s(entries that have been quite blown up), so you get an honest resume they can trust. Some of these firms really do check ups so when they do, you get the facts nothing more nothing less. You might also want to change the photo(you might still have the one straight from graduation), they might be small changes but they make big changes.

“Well just call you.” That’s the statement that replays over and over in our minds when the employer doesn’t want to hire us. It’s sad but true. Not all people have the equal luck to get hired easily. We must not feel down about it if we got rejected. Don’t discourage yourself if you don’t get hired on the job you’re applying for. Always think positive. As the Law of Attraction states, “Positive thoughts attract positive things and negative thoughts attract negative things.” There is still an option for you, to look for another job. As if that there isn’t even at least one job that is specifically and rightfully meant for you and your profession. What if the job description written doesn’t match your specialization? I think that it’s best for you to still take on the job even if it’s out of your league. Don’t be afraid to step your comfort zone.

You may not have liked your boss before, and then you decided to resign (or he fired you). Now, the interviewer in front of you asking the question regarding how you left your previous company. What do you say?

  • Never bad-mouth your previous employer. To the interviewer, it looks as though you’re unprofessional and have a bad attitude towards work. Instead, calmly tell them that you have decided to move on despite the challenges you experienced with your previous employer and what you garnered from the experience.
  • Don’t act like a victim, be a survivor. Being downsized and fired is an unpleasant fact. Accept the situation for what it is rather than vent it all on the interviewer. It shows that you have the capability to adapt quickly to any situation.
  • Never burn bridges with your former employer, your experience with them will help you in getting the next better job.

If you think your job search ends when you get to receive a job offer, think again. The truth is, the challenge has just started. The next thing to do after a job offer has been laid down for you to get or reject is to assess things. Before giving a yes for an answer, take time to look at the different factors that could affect your work experience with the company.

You can start by looking at the company’s goals. From there, you’ll be able to tell if it champions the cause of its workers or is simply operating for profit’s sake. After getting all the information you need, visualize yourself working for the company. If job satisfaction based on that visualization is high, then you can be assured that the job offer is a blessing.
